Safeguard from Internet Banking Intruders

Internet banking intruders can use your personal information available on your social networking profile for extracting banking credentials and committing fraud.

HOW DO THESE INTRUDERS OPERATE?

  • Intruders access customer's name and date of birth from their social networking profile, via social engineering they try to get their login credentials and update them on the government sites like Income Tax to obtain PAN and mobile numbers
  • They get duplicate PAN/Aadhaar created, which in turn is used to get a duplicate SIM by lodging a mobile theft complaint and contacting mobile service provider
  • With all documents at hand, intruders click on 'forgot password' link on the bank website and retrieve the OTP on the duplicate SIM
  • They can now transfer funds from the customer's bank account

HOW TO SAFEGUARD YOURSELF FROM THESE INTRUDERS?

On social networking sites:

  • Avoid mentioning date of birth and contact numbers
  • Ensure privacy settings
  • Do not befriend strangers
  • Keep changing your password every few months
  • Share information with caution

On telephonic devices:

  • Be watchful of any SIM disconnection message
  • Be careful about abrupt disconnection of SIM
